Not an ordinary club meeting.(11 Oct 2011)

Dear fellow Indrahanians,

October babies! (from left) Michael, Dr Devi and Angie
It was Dr Devi Menon's DTM last day of work that day! The next day would be her birthday and first day of retirement. That’s why her cake had a single candle! We celebrated the occasion with a chocolate-banana cake brought by Dr Devi herself. The club had the honor of hosting a regular meeting with a visit by the International President Elect 2011-2012,  Dr John Lau, DTM; Lieutenant-Governor for Education and Training (LGET) Ramdas Nayar, DTM; and Lieutenant-Governor for  Marketing, Kiang Faang Pyng, DTM. The latter was our madam General Evaluator (GE) for the evening.

The meeting started off with the presidential address by Lim Thian Seng, then he handed control of the lectern to the Toastmaster-of-the-Evening, Jean Ng. It was her first time taking up this role and she managed it perfectly well. With no delays and confusion towards the schedule in the meeting programme, it was a job well done!

The audience then burst out laughing during the humour session open to the floor. Thian Seng and Dominic both did well to tickle our funny bones. For the table topics session, Angie Ng also played her role with confidence. A total of 4 speakers - Mahan, Angeline, Ramdas and Durai - volunteered to take up the challenge.

Assignment speakers were up next. The three speakers for the evening were Mohan Singh doing his maiden speech, Karen Cheah with her fourth speech and Tang Chee Yan with his fifth. Mohan showed bravery and shared with us about his past experience and the laziness in him that caused him to fail from getting promoted. He taught us a valuable lesson on how important knowledge is in this current competitive world. Karen talked about the pros and cons of having a maid at home. And lastly, Chee Yan shared his fear of autistic children and how he managed to overcome it.

Dr John Lau enlightening us to become great leaders
The GE, Kiang Faang Pyng took over control for the second half of the meeting after the intermission. The evaluators for the night were Ho Fong Ming (table topics evaluator), Dominic Joseph, Chrristine Ngiam and LeAnn Tang. All of them gave thorough evaluations for each speaker. And I am sure that every speaker had something to bring back to learn as they reflect on what the evaluators had mentioned.

At the later part of the evening, Dr John Lau shared with us a few words of wisdom as we embarked on the Toastmasters journey. Thank you for sharing with us those inspiring words, Dr John Lau.
The Best Table Topic Speaker award went to Durai, while Chee Yan was voted as the Best Speaker for his Project #5. LeAnn won the Best Evaluator award.
Durai: It's been a while since i got this ribbon! Great to be back!
The EGM followed after the meeting as fellow Indrahanians voted for whom to take over the role as Vice-President Public Relations (VPPR) of the club. After the voting, Tang Chee Yan was the new VPPR of the club, taking over the role from May Yong. Welcome Chee Yan and hope you will enjoy and gain experience in this role you have taken up!

Overall, it was a fantastic evening, filled with wonderful speeches and happiness that comes along with it. Well done, fellow Indrahanians and we hope every guest enjoyed their time as well.

Message from the Division Governor

Good day to all of you.   T here was once myself and NJ Singam (past  convention   organizing  Chair) went to one of the local bank to close the  convention  bank account. When we went to the counter, we informed the officer about the matter and she handed us 2 forms for us to initial it. Then she obtained our Identification Card for verification. Just within 4 minutes, the officer handed us the remaining balance and told us that, the account was closed. It was a total contrast, if we compared with opening a bank account, where we had to fill few forms, go through few  verification  and approvals prior to opening an account. The entire process took almost 2.5hours compared to closure of account which lasted only for 5 minutes.     We often forget or never ponder on the  initiator  of the club and their sacrifice &  hard work  to charter the club and we just need a single sheet of paper to close a ...

Updates from TI

February 2013 Board Meeting The 2012-2013 Board of Directors will meet February 22-23, 2013, in Southern California. The Board held its first in-person meeting after the convention in August. Since that time, the Board's committees have met virtually, focusing on topics that support the 2010 Strategic Plan. These virtual meetings have reduced the amount of time Board members need to spend at in-person meetings . This year's February Board meeting schedule has been reduced to two days. Following the completion of the meeting, the results of the discussions will be shared in writing on the Toastmasters International website instead of at a public board briefing or through streaming video. The meeting will be shorter and less expensive, however, the reporting will still be provided in a timely manner. Members can visit the Toastmasters International website to see the results of the Board meeting on February 25 and the ILC officer nomination results on February 23....
