Hi Indrahanians,
On Monday morning, just before I woke up at 10.30 am (hehe), I had my last dream of the morning. I dreamt that we were having our Taman Indrahana Toastmasters Club meeting during our special Guest Night. We had a huge turnout of about 30 guests and 20+ of us members, making a total of 50+ people at the meeting. It was a record breaking night where we had to sit classroom style - it was exactly like my school classroom where we sat in pairs with little tables in front of us. I was sitting next to Alice & we were animatedly discussing our guest turnout.
Of course none of the above is true except that we did just have our Guest Night last week, & it was probably my subconcious mind telling me I haven't written my report to you yet about that exciting event on the night of 29 Sept!
So here goes...
Yes we did have a big turnout - 21 members & 11 guests. We had to open up the back room to cater to the extra people.
First the food - it was scrumptious. What with nasi lemak, lemang, roti canai, curry chicken, & etc, PLUS a whole load of kueh mueh contributions from our members (including Teresa's durian cake - remember Teresa, our long lost friend & baker?) We were overwhelmed with good food.
Appropriately, to grace this special occasion was our own Area B2 Governor, Datin Jacinta who was our GE.
LeAnn was her usual enthusiatic form as TME in selling, selling & more selling of our club to potential new members. She knows about Toastmasters inside out & is never lost for words about the movement.
In line with our celebrative mood, Durai's speech title was really intriguing: "One roti canai, please." After that speech, I would have liked to have a go at my second roti canai during our break, but I was stopped in my tracks by May's speech, "Living Healthily". So I had to sacrifice my roti canai & durian cake during the break & instead settled for a healthy banana.
Now the Raya get-up: Thian Seng & assistants gave us a festive feel with the decor, Raya music & the many members dressed up for the occasion. If there had been a prize for Best Costume, I believe it would have gone to Wooi Hong who looked like the proseperous, fair skin son of a Tan Sri hosting a Raya Open House. He even spoke about 1Malaysia during his Table Topic session - and promptly went on to win the Best Table Topic Speaker award.
Meanwhile, Teresa must have found it worth the while to appear after such a long absence from our meetings. She was ploughed with impromptu roles, playing silent & verbal speech evaluations. She took it all in her stride & showed no rustiness at all - and proceeded to win the Best Evaluator award.
Two of our new members - Mellen & June - were inducted that night, and this was a good demo to our Guests to show how new members are honoured at Toastmasters. At the other end of the spectrum, we acknowledged 2 new DTMs in our club - Dominic & Dr Devi.
Fanny & June took on maiden roles as Humour Master & Timer respectively.
All in all, I believe we have done our part very well in showcasing what a Toastmasters meeting is all about to our Guests. The rest is up to them, whether they believe in the journey of self-improvement and continuous learning. Even if they decide to join another Toastmasters club, it's okay, as I believe we have made our contributions to their life improvement.
So to all those who contributed, even if it was just being there, thanks for your presence & contributions - give yourself a pat on the back. And to Thian Seng, the main organiser, thanks a bunch for the wonderful event.
May all great blessings come your way.
