What a scintillating Meeting@27July'10!

Dear Indrahanians & DTM Sivalingam,

Last evening, Thian Seng came first, followed by Victor Ong to set up the meeting room. Soon after, the others trooped in – and very soon, we were ready to begin. Kay Wong’s presidential address is always a delight to hear because she uses stories to draw us in; stories that make us ponder and reflect. And when she’s finished with her narration, a lesson will have been imprinted in our consciousness!

Our Immediate Past President and Area B2 Governor, Han Lee Hwee took control of the meeting as TME, and he too launched another short story. I tell you – we do have engaging storytellers at Taman Indrahana and they are all talented.

And then we had Alice Ong in her familiar role as Humor Master. I have often found her to be an interesting humorist – there’s something about her I cannot put my finger on. Perhaps it’s that gleaming sparkle in her eyes? Or her mirthful demeanor? Or her chirpy smile? Whatever it is – I sense this welcomed warmth in the way she tells her jokes. Yesterday was no different – in fact, I adored and enjoyed that story about the thimble! And I am still laughing at it now…

The project speeches came next. Victor Ong delivered “The Unfinished Story” from the CC manual, speech # 4: How to Say It – and he jam-packed the audience’s imagination with vivid slides of words and pictures that eloquently described his idyllic holiday in Kuantan. And Koon Kow’s take on “Old is Gold” was a timely reminder that one day, when we do become senior citizens, we can still revel in the wonderful experiences of the golden years if only we look at Life positively. And since it was supposed to be a humorous speech – I found the second story about the dogs chasing after the car downright funny…and decidedly true! Koon Kow is right – like everyone else, I too chase after ‘things’. I realize that it’s not so much what those ‘things’ are but rather it is the pursuit of ‘things’ that matters most! To me, at least, it is in the chasing that we challenge ourselves!

Table Topics came next, and the charming Dr. Devi took charge. Her topics centered on 'idioms' and five sporting souls volunteered! But it was Fanny Thang who caught everyone’s eye and ear because she confessed that speaking in English is not “a piece of cake” for her and yet, determinedly, she gave her best shot and voila! she managed to deliver this impromptu speech for nearly the whole of two minutes! So, she was really deserving of the Best Table Topics ribbon!

This meeting had G Sivalingam, DTM as our General Evaluator – and when you have someone as qualified and acclaimed as he is – the TME when introducing him, highlighted a long list of accomplishments that would stretch a mile to accommodate them – Indrahanians can certainly pick up more than a few tips from this master! The evaluations were effusive and went exceedingly well and the role players performed brilliantly – every one of them!

Overall, it was indeed a scintillating meeting that did foster learning, un-learning and re-learning, and as a bonus, we also had great fellowship! Wow, another power-packed meeting that is a trademark of this Club.

Message from the Division Governor

Good day to all of you.   T here was once myself and NJ Singam (past  convention   organizing  Chair) went to one of the local bank to close the  convention  bank account. When we went to the counter, we informed the officer about the matter and she handed us 2 forms for us to initial it. Then she obtained our Identification Card for verification. Just within 4 minutes, the officer handed us the remaining balance and told us that, the account was closed. It was a total contrast, if we compared with opening a bank account, where we had to fill few forms, go through few  verification  and approvals prior to opening an account. The entire process took almost 2.5hours compared to closure of account which lasted only for 5 minutes.     We often forget or never ponder on the  initiator  of the club and their sacrifice &  hard work  to charter the club and we just need a single sheet of paper to close a ...

Updates from TI

February 2013 Board Meeting The 2012-2013 Board of Directors will meet February 22-23, 2013, in Southern California. The Board held its first in-person meeting after the convention in August. Since that time, the Board's committees have met virtually, focusing on topics that support the 2010 Strategic Plan. These virtual meetings have reduced the amount of time Board members need to spend at in-person meetings . This year's February Board meeting schedule has been reduced to two days. Following the completion of the meeting, the results of the discussions will be shared in writing on the Toastmasters International website instead of at a public board briefing or through streaming video. The meeting will be shorter and less expensive, however, the reporting will still be provided in a timely manner. Members can visit the Toastmasters International website to see the results of the Board meeting on February 25 and the ILC officer nomination results on February 23....
