Induction of New Member

12 May 2009

The meeting started at 7.30p.m. The TME for this evening was Teresa Chan, ACS, CL. Although she has been out of action for sometime, she was able to play this role well.

The meeting started with Vice President Public Relations, Jade Lim, CC conducting the induction ceremony meant for three new members. However, only one new member, Khor Hong Yuan was inducted.

The Table Table Topic Master, Chin Kit Ping, CC has conducted this session with some topics of contest standard. Out of the 5 speakers, three topics were attempted by the guest who was present for the night. Two of the guest who attempted the topics was here for the first time and they really enjoy this session.

The first speech was an Ice Breaker Speech delivered by Khor Hong Yuan, TM with her speech title “A Snip in my life”. She shared with us on a part of her working life. Her first job evolved around the lab analyzing virus. In her speech she told us why she moved away from this job and entered the Sales front. As this is her maiden speech, she had delivered this speech with full of confidence.

The second speech was delivered by May Yong , TM with her speech title “My Japan Experience” She share with us about her trip to Japan with a group of “senior citizens”. She visited many places of interest such as Asakusa Canon Temple, oldest temple in Tokyo, giant Chrysanthemum flowers exhibition, Electronic district of Akihabara, shopping in Ginza, bullet train ride to Nikko, beautiful Toshogu Shrine in the autumn, and enjoying the bountiful authentic Japanese foods. We were looking forward to her adventure at Disneyland but too our dismay, it was not part of the itinerary. Why? I guest you know the answer.

Our General Evaluator, Murphy Lum, ACB, ALB too gave his two cents worth in his evaluation report. He was able to link some of the table topics into some meaningful sentences and also give us a very good and constructive feedback about the meeting.

Overall it was a fantastic meeting with world class Table Topics and world class General Evaluator.

As far as I could recall, me parents were not staying with me since I was 3 years old; they went overseas and started their new working life for some reason, and did not come back ever since. I'm staying with my grandmother, and she look after my elder brother, younger sister and me. I actually have not met my parents for more than 18 years and only communicate through the phone and social media. Can you imagine, 15 years of not seeing your own parents? 18 years of not having parents around the house, school and life. My grandmother take over my mother's role, she does all the housework for us. She takes care of us. My relative, they are not rich but they sponsor me for my education and pocket money. However, even though I have the love from my grandmother and relatives, I felt that I'm different from others. They have parents accompany them during
