Taman Indrahana TMC is Proud.

Victor with his mentees Taman Indrahana is proud to have a good mixture of senior and new members. This helps the club to constantly improve in being a better club term after term. The senior members become good mentors that help newer members to excel, and indirectly help the club succeed. This one particular member that deserves recognition is one of the experienced members in the club. He is none other than, Victor Ong.  Here is a write up regarding some of Victor's personal experiences when he was completing his forth CC title.    Member’s personal experience Q : What does this educational achievement means to you? A : This CC achievement represents my fourth CC attempt and I am already embarking on my fifth. When I repeat my CC Manual - it is always about doing it better than the last time - and so, it is about self-betterment. Q : How long does it take to complete the educational goal? A : This particular attempt took me 422 days. My earlier attempts took 218

TI turns 87 today!

Not an ordinary club meeting.(11 Oct 2011)

Dear fellow Indrahanians,  October babies! (from left) Michael, Dr Devi and Angie It was Dr Devi Menon's DTM last day of work that day! The next day would be her birthday and first day of retirement. That’s why her cake had a single candle! We celebrated the occasion with a chocolate-banana cake brought by Dr Devi herself. The club had the honor of hosting a regular meeting with a visit by the International President Elect 2011-2012,  Dr John Lau, DTM; Lieutenant-Governor for Education and Training (LGET) Ramdas Nayar, DTM; and Lieutenant-Governor for  Marketing, Kiang Faang Pyng, DTM. The latter was our madam General Evaluator (GE) for the evening. The meeting started off with the presidential address by Lim Thian Seng, then he handed control of the lectern to the Toastmaster-of-the-Evening, Jean Ng. It was her first time taking up this role and she managed it perfectly well. With no delays and confusion towards the schedule in the meeting programme, it was a job we

Meeting @ 27/9

What a night! 33 people turned up for a regular meeting! This number includes guest from Sunway University! The night started out by the presidential address, Lim Thian Seng took the floor and asked the guest to introduced themselves. Next! the usual energetic, hyper, fullofsarcasm  yet humourous, Victor Ong took over the control as the Toastmaster of the Evening! He created an blissful atmosphere in the room to start off the meeting.  Table Topics, done by Undarma( 1st timer ) gave opportunities to 5 speakers to try on deep topics that require the participants to think hard, thoroughly, and critical. Topics such as eg: 1) What is the significance of life? 2) Who inspire you most and why? 3) If you are the ruler of the world for 1 day, what are the 3 things will you do?  Participants like Fanny, Angie and Tong Fong, took up the challenge and gave it a go towards the given topic! All the participants did extraordinary well.  After that came the assignment speeches. First one up i

Division B Humorous Speech and Speech Evaluation Contest!

Taman Indrahana sent two fantastic speakers out for the Division B contest held on the 24 of September 2011 at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus. Our funny guy, Han Lee Hwee was competing in the Humorous Speech Contest while Ng Jean Hui was competing in what she does best, the Evaluation Speech Contest. The evaluation contest started out first. Kenneth Yee as the test speaker gave his speech titled "When I realised... " In his speech, he talked about the Pain and Pleasure that every human will face in their lives and how these two factors affect each one of them in making decisions. Jean was up against many senior toastmasters such as Ng Sok Teng from Crystal Toastmasters Club, Sarimah Morshidi, Dennis Wee and Nor Lida Dahalan. Jean was cool and calm when it was her turn to evaluate Kenneth. She spoke with clarity and gave strong point regarding his strengths and areas of improvement. Loud applause was given to her as she was done.  Next came the Humorous Speech c

Communication Skills Wanted

Sunday, April 10, 2011 Contributed by Victor Ong Communication Skills Wanted The Sunday Star newspaper today front-paged this advice: “It does not matter if you are top of your class or have a string of degrees, that dream job will not be yours unless you can speak and write well in English”. Simply put, if you cannot communicate in English, how can you be expected to perform? Feedback from local and international employers – consolidated into the MEF Salary Survey for Executives 2010 – shows that verbal and written communication skills in English remain the most sought-after attribute in prospective employees. This is reflected by the 68% of the companies that were surveyed that identified it as the top quality required in job applicants. Yet many students are still not realizing this and if they do, they are not doing anything about it – they remain cocooned in their "tidak apa" mindset and hope that by the time they graduate, they would have made some headway in s

Happy Birthday April Babies!

Karen brings laughters to people, she is a Laughter Yoga Leader who brings HO HO HA HA HA to the club. Judy, our new kid on the block... bright, intelligent and smart.   Victor lives and breaths with toastmasters, he just can't stop making speeches that make him an eloquent speaker today. Fong Ming is our big sister, she does effective verbal evaluation without making any note, impressive!  Jade , the VPPR of the club who loves to organise events for members, she feels happy seeing members come with smiles, leave with laughters.

Victor Ong, won the Best Speaker in Debate

27 March 2011, Sunday ~ By Victor Ong Today, Klang Bilingual Toastmasters celebrated their fifth Anniversary and organized a debate to commemorate this occasion. Two formidable teams squared off. I was the second speaker with the opposing side and I represented Taman Indrahana Toastmasters. My other team-mates included Dennis Wee (D’Utama Advanced), Vincent Hoh (Metropolitan Bilingual) and Jonathan Moh (D’Utama). The other side started with the proposition that “Leaders are made, not born” and their members were Johnson Yike (Phoenix), Lee Xi Wen (TTDI), Shirley Cheok (Klang Bilingual) and Lawrence Hoo (Speaker’s Dream). We did our best to turn the argument on its head, but we weren’t successful. We didn’t win. I was chosen the Best Speaker of my team, if that is any consolation for me. (For the other team, the Best Speaker award went to Johnson). Oh well, at least, I got the opportunity to experience a debate, Toastmasters-style.

It was more than a Guest Nite!

Believe it of not. it must have something to do with the dates!!! On 11/01/11, we had 14 guests and now on 22/02/11, we had 13 guests at our meeting!!! Both these were just our routine meeting and not a "Guests' Nite". That's simply incredible!!!! The best part is that 4 of them were accepted as members on 22/02/11. Thanks to Suat Hoong of MAICSA TMC; Past Pres Paru and Pres Kay for introducing these 4 new members to the club. Thanks also to IPDG Ritchie for introducing one of the 13 guests who thoroughly enjoyed themselves on 22/02/11.

International Speech & Table Topic Contest@25 Jan

Indrahanians and guests (and role-players too) flocked to IJM Cobra Club on Tuesday, January 25 to witness the club-level International Speech and Table Topics contest. There were a more than decent crowd of 32 who came, of which seventeen were Indrahanians. Peggy Yeap was the Organizing Chair and as one would expect from an Indrahanian, it was superbly organized. In the International Speech contest , there were five participants who recited their speeches in the only way they know how – splendid delivery, sublime content and superior entertainment value. At least that’s how I see it! When the results were announced, Weng May came out tops with her speech “Not Now”. First runner-up was Thian Seng with his “The Dream Stealer” speech and second runner-up was Victor Ong with his “A Life of Failure” speech. Table Topics was next, and this time, the topic given was a lengthy one but again, all five contestants acquitted themselves very well. Victor Ong was the club champion, first ru

Successful Event with Loghan's Workshop@8 Jan 2011

Successful Event with 'Unlocking the Keys to Contests' Workshop by DTM Loghan, on 8 Jan 2011 Dear Indrahanians, I'm happy to report to you that today we had a successful day with our workshop, 'Unlocking the keys to contests'. I think it must have been quite some time since Taman Indrahana organised a public workshop (if my memory serves me right). Certainly for this term, this is the first time we are organising one. I'm happy to say that we must have hit at least 100 ticket sales (we shall await KK's report), which means that we were able to bring a very meaningful & relevant workshop to some 90 participants at least. My personal target was 120 to 150 tix sold - but as we went along, we realised that we were competing against Div P's TLI2, many company functions, & many people still on leave. So I think I'm just grateful for what we achieved:-) Ho ho ha ha ha! Coming from the champion horse's mouth, Loghan therefore played a bi

Happy Birthday January Babies!

Happy Birthday to our January babies... Robert, Dom, Alice, Chee Yan, Choi Woon and May!   Out of the six champions of the year, three of them are our past presidents. Robert (1994/95), Dominic(2003/04) and Choi Woon(2008/09), brought the club to greater height during their term of service. Each of them has their uniqueness that all members can relate to... ROBERT is cheerful, DOM is humorous, CHOI WOON is meticulous.  What about ALICE? She keeps us inspired that learning is a life-long journey. We love her humor, so authentic and heart-warming that touches the heart of everyone! CHEE YAN is the youngest member of the club, carried with him the maturity that speaks beyond his age. We are impressed with your value in life and certainly proud to have you with the club, Chee Yan! And MAY, a very meticulous and responsible secretary for the club, that we are all impressed by her thoroughness. We love her courage! By stepping up to participate in the recent Evaluation Contest, it
