International Speech & Table Topic Contest@25 Jan

Indrahanians and guests (and role-players too) flocked to IJM Cobra Club on Tuesday, January 25 to witness the club-level International Speech and Table Topics contest. There were a more than decent crowd of 32 who came, of which seventeen were Indrahanians.

Peggy Yeap was the Organizing Chair and as one would expect from an Indrahanian, it was superbly organized. In the International Speech contest, there were five participants who recited their speeches in the only way they know how – splendid delivery, sublime content and superior entertainment value. At least that’s how I see it!

When the results were announced, Weng May came out tops with her speech “Not Now”. First runner-up was Thian Seng with his “The Dream Stealer” speech and second runner-up was Victor Ong with his “A Life of Failure” speech.

Table Topics was next, and this time, the topic given was a lengthy one but again, all five contestants acquitted themselves very well. Victor Ong was the club champion, first runner-up was Dr. Devi Menon, and second-runner-up was Thian Seng.

Although the other contestants didn’t win – Alice and Jade in the International Speech segment and Alice and Weng May in the Table Topics segment – methinks all the contestants – yes, every one of them – deserve a big round of applause for taking part and producing first-rate speeches that Indrahanians are already well-known for. Bouquets of thanks must also go to the others for coming to take on roles or to give support. And it’s not just about giving support because these speakers have indeed touched us in more ways than one with their stirring performances on that night.

Anyway, congratulations on the winners! As always, you did us proud!

So, Weng May and Thian Seng will represent the club to the Area-level contest on February 26 at Taylor’s for International Speech, and Victor and Dr. Devi will do the same for Table Topics. Come on, Indrahanians, do come and cheer on our winning contestants!

Ice Breaker Speech: Myself by Ang Poon Kenn

Good evening everyone, my name is Ang Poon Kenn, everyone calls me Ken. Today, the title of my speech is about Myself. As far as I could recall, me parents were not staying with me since I was 3 years old; they went overseas and started their new working life for some reason, and did not come back ever since. I'm staying with my grandmother, and she look after my elder brother, younger sister and me. I actually have not met my parents for more than 18 years and only communicate through the phone and social media. Can you imagine, 15 years of not seeing your own parents? 18 years of not having parents around the house, school and life. My grandmother take over my mother's role, she does all the housework for us. She takes care of us. My relative, they are not rich but they sponsor me for my education and pocket money. However, even though I have the love from my grandmother and relatives, I felt that I'm different from others. They have parents accompany them during...
