When light shines

"When you have a decision to make, choose the path that brings light, not darkness         -  Dr Devi Menon"
Dr. Devi, in her elegant black punjabi suit, was our Toastmaster of the Evening on 28th October 2014. She shared the origin and the meaning of Deepavali with all of us during her session. Our Madam President, Pei Lim also dressed up to the occasion in this sweet punjabi suit :)

Induction session is very vital for new members when they first join Taman Indrahana Toastmasters Club. Last Tuesday, Jee Peng, Vice President of Membership inducted Gavin Teoh ~ Gavin, welcome you to our club!

'Toastmaster wears many hats' was mentioned by Yeoh Cheng Lim during the invocation session. He is ready to take up any challenge given to him. He was our in-house general evaluator of this meeting too. He accepted the job at the eleventh hour! Thanks Yeoh!

It is new to me that Japan celebrates Deepavali. I got the information from our sweet Table Topic Master, Yeong Ai Lin. She gave us a very creative table topic session. She used the flag of the countries as the table topic of the day. All table topic speakers enjoyed themselves at this session. I have a good laugh when Durai gave us a short humorous table topic! Dr Devi, Julian (guest), Ong Beng Chung, Durai and Kah Fai were the table topic speakers.

We have two prepared speeches for this meeting, Jeremy Lim and Victor Ong. Interesting topics from these two speakers. One on 'why you should marry an accountant' by Jeremy Lim (author interpreted the topic to:- why you should marry me - Jeremy Lim) - joking, :P ! Victor Ong delivered a speech on 'Masks".

We have a very interesting phenomena for the meeting as we have three best table topic speakers. See, they enjoyed themselves very much! Durai, you should speak more in the club!

All in all, we have a good meeting on last Tuesday. Attention peeps! We have few events coming up in the month of November as announced in the Facebook Page and email. Do check them out :)

Ice Breaker Speech: Myself by Ang Poon Kenn

Good evening everyone, my name is Ang Poon Kenn, everyone calls me Ken. Today, the title of my speech is about Myself. As far as I could recall, me parents were not staying with me since I was 3 years old; they went overseas and started their new working life for some reason, and did not come back ever since. I'm staying with my grandmother, and she look after my elder brother, younger sister and me. I actually have not met my parents for more than 18 years and only communicate through the phone and social media. Can you imagine, 15 years of not seeing your own parents? 18 years of not having parents around the house, school and life. My grandmother take over my mother's role, she does all the housework for us. She takes care of us. My relative, they are not rich but they sponsor me for my education and pocket money. However, even though I have the love from my grandmother and relatives, I felt that I'm different from others. They have parents accompany them during

9.9.14 - A joyful mid-autumn meeting, of reunion and reminiscing the good old times

On 9 th September 2014, members and guests of Taman Indrahana Toastmasters Club turned up for the meeting in a warm manner, as everyone celebrated Mid-Autumn Festival – the theme of the meeting – together. The meeting room was decorated with lanterns with mooncakes served along with the refreshments. The meeting started off with the opening address by our president, Ting Pei Lim, CC. Before she ended her speech, Pei Lim took out her ukulele and played 月亮代表我得心 “The Moon Represents My Heart” by the late Teresa Teng, with the audience started singing along. Technology came in handy when some members took out their smartphones and searched for the lyrics of the song.
