Meeting On 13 October 2009

Hi Indrahanians,

I feel sorry for those of you members who missed our Deepavali Toastmasters meeting on 13 Oct.

Why? Well for one thing it was the Indian food we had. It was also the super-divine homemade choc chip cookies brought by Teresa’s guest, Audrey. They just melt in your mouth…I’m salivating still.

Then we also had members & guests dressing up for the occasion. We all got to wear the little Indian do on our “third eye” (sorry I forgot what it’s called!) We looked veritably like our Indian friends. In fact May looked like she’s married to an Indian husband.

Dr Devi was in her glorious saree & she started with an invocation regarding the light of Deepavali. My understanding of it is that this light symbolises the light that lights our path along our spiritual journey.

We had two ice breakers from two of our new members – they were so well done with such interesting insights into their lives, they deserve the standing ovation.

Our GE, Meyya, was a bundle of high energy and enthusiasm when conducting his role with his team of assistants. Since the theme was Deepavali, our Word of the Day was ‘light’. Teresa, as Grammarian, had so much business that night she went over her time limit!

And for the record, here’s a reminder to all members that for this term, there’s an ongoing “Most Improved Table Topics Speaker” ribbon to be given away after every quarter.

To refresh your memory, here’s how the “Most Improved Table Topics Speaker” award goes...

Every 3 months, the award of a ribbon is given away to one most improved speaker of TT
Eligible participants for the award must speak at least 3 times during the meetings held in that 3-month period
During these minimum of 3 TT speeches, winner should have shown improvement (monitored by myself as VPE)

And now the “Most Improved Table Topics Speaker” award goes to… (drum roll please!)……(scoll down)

ANAN, our newest member!

So, to all members, please go for it – we’re starting our next quarter award again from the next meeting onwards, for the next 3 months.

May all great blessings come your way.

Ice Breaker Speech: Myself by Ang Poon Kenn

Good evening everyone, my name is Ang Poon Kenn, everyone calls me Ken. Today, the title of my speech is about Myself. As far as I could recall, me parents were not staying with me since I was 3 years old; they went overseas and started their new working life for some reason, and did not come back ever since. I'm staying with my grandmother, and she look after my elder brother, younger sister and me. I actually have not met my parents for more than 18 years and only communicate through the phone and social media. Can you imagine, 15 years of not seeing your own parents? 18 years of not having parents around the house, school and life. My grandmother take over my mother's role, she does all the housework for us. She takes care of us. My relative, they are not rich but they sponsor me for my education and pocket money. However, even though I have the love from my grandmother and relatives, I felt that I'm different from others. They have parents accompany them during...
