Meeting on 26 January 2010

Dear Indrahanians,

It was the first time this term that our club had a joint-meeting with another club, WIM Toastmasters Club (TMC). We had quite a gathering of 'sibling' clubs together, sort of like a union of Toastmasters brothers & sisters.

The first thing I'd like to say is that WIM TMC must have many quality members. They had 7 members present vs our 12. Yet all the night's rewards went to WIM - Best Table Topic Speaker, Best Speaker & Best Evaluator. Kudos to WIM TMC.

You see, this is the great thing about having joint meetings - we learn how other clubs work & how other members excel. The best TT speaker spoke philosophically, yet was full of humour. The best speaker was a new member, yet conveyed a strong message in his speech with passion. The best evaluator gave very insightful & practical comments to help the speaker improve his speech.

From here we can all learn what it takes to be the "best" of the best:-)

Well on our side, we also tried to do our best. Yuan gave a humorous rendition as Humour Master. She's one enthusiastic member who always tries to do her best when given any role.

Wooi Hong made us doubly aware of how burnout works, whilst May brought us out on an outing to the Selangor Turf Club races.

Dr Devi gave immediate evaluations to the Table Topics speakers - quite a feat; a practice we should all learn to do. Fong MIng & Yeoh gave very valuable feedback to assignment speakers. Jade gamely took over the Timer's role at the last minute.

Thian Seng was TME and is now on the verge of becoming a CL - we can't wait!

Meanwhile, Dom & Alice came to give moral support & to enjoy themselves at the sidelines.

It was another night well-spent, especially in light of the new bonds forged between members of joint clubs. Thanks to all who helped make it enjoyable. We hope to have more such meetings of minds in the future.

May all great blessings come your way.

Kind rgds,

Kay Wong

Ice Breaker Speech: Myself by Ang Poon Kenn

Good evening everyone, my name is Ang Poon Kenn, everyone calls me Ken. Today, the title of my speech is about Myself. As far as I could recall, me parents were not staying with me since I was 3 years old; they went overseas and started their new working life for some reason, and did not come back ever since. I'm staying with my grandmother, and she look after my elder brother, younger sister and me. I actually have not met my parents for more than 18 years and only communicate through the phone and social media. Can you imagine, 15 years of not seeing your own parents? 18 years of not having parents around the house, school and life. My grandmother take over my mother's role, she does all the housework for us. She takes care of us. My relative, they are not rich but they sponsor me for my education and pocket money. However, even though I have the love from my grandmother and relatives, I felt that I'm different from others. They have parents accompany them during...
