Meeting on 23 February 2010

Dear Indrahanians,

Greetings to you. Want to know what happened on 23 Feb?

It was a dark & stormy night... Lightning sparked fiercely through the sky. Thunder roared as loud as the Lion King. The rain pounded down relentlessly. And as usual our KL/PJ roads were flooded. (What’s new? And because of that, our poor GE Parames had a slight car accident!)

Anyway, you’d have expected an empty room at our meeting. But you’d be wrong. Because we had our usual attendance of more than 20 over members. Plus, we had the full attendance of our 4 DTMs from our club – Fong Ming, LeAnn, Dom & Dr Devi. Now how’s that for commitment & support from our veteran members?

And so of course, in tango with the weather, we had a high octane meeting. There were flashes of brilliance from many of the speakers. So there was thunderous applause all round for them. And there was a flood of valuable feedback & learning for us all to take home.

I’m really sorry for you if you were one of those who missed this meeting because on that night we had high quality assignment speakers – we had a speech marathon by Anan, LeAnn, Wooi Hong & May. With that, May completed her 10 speeches from the CC manual & she’s now our latest CC in the club. Please give her a big round of applause & send her your congratulations. She’s now so happy & relieved. Whew!

We had contest-quality speech evaluations. If you have been coming regularly to meetings, you’d have been admiring how Thian Seng gets better & better in his speech evaluations. Well done, Thian Seng, we look forward to your representing our club at Evaluation Contest later this year:-)

We had contest-worthy Table Topic speakers who readily challenged the contest-type table topics provided by Koon Kow. Volunteers shot their hands up to be counted readily for the opportunity to practise, as we’re now in TT contest season. The speakers were also very privileged to be given valuable feedback & tips from Fong Ming as to what judges look for, before their dash to victory in a couple of weeks’ time.

Then we had 2 new members who made their debuts – Karen as ‘Ah Counter’ & Yoga as Timer. It’s great to see them taking the first baby step in their Toastmaster journey. And Yoga has already volunteered to be ‘Ah Counter’ in the next regular meeting. That’s the spirit, Yoga. Way to go!

Last but not least, according to Fong Ming, it’s the first time she’s seen a club having TWO words of the day instead of one – that’s because Yeoh, as Language Evaluator that night, wanted to highlight the common misuse and abuse of the words ‘couple’ & ‘several’.

Isn’t it wonderful that our club has such high energy from its members? I’m sure we’re all very proud of our club. And for those of you who haven’t been able to come regularly to meetings, may I urge you to come back soon to add to the spirit of our club.

A couple of final notes. Membership fees are due – please pay up to Wooi Hong. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. And our next meeting on 9th March is our International Speech &Table Topic Contests. You still have time to submit your names to Fanny / Choi Woon if you wish to contest. Or else, just turn up to enjoy the show:-)

May all great blessings come your way.

Kind rgds,

Kay Wong

Message from the Division Governor

Good day to all of you.   T here was once myself and NJ Singam (past  convention   organizing  Chair) went to one of the local bank to close the  convention  bank account. When we went to the counter, we informed the officer about the matter and she handed us 2 forms for us to initial it. Then she obtained our Identification Card for verification. Just within 4 minutes, the officer handed us the remaining balance and told us that, the account was closed. It was a total contrast, if we compared with opening a bank account, where we had to fill few forms, go through few  verification  and approvals prior to opening an account. The entire process took almost 2.5hours compared to closure of account which lasted only for 5 minutes.     We often forget or never ponder on the  initiator  of the club and their sacrifice &  hard work  to charter the club and we just need a single sheet of paper to close a ...

Updates from TI

February 2013 Board Meeting The 2012-2013 Board of Directors will meet February 22-23, 2013, in Southern California. The Board held its first in-person meeting after the convention in August. Since that time, the Board's committees have met virtually, focusing on topics that support the 2010 Strategic Plan. These virtual meetings have reduced the amount of time Board members need to spend at in-person meetings . This year's February Board meeting schedule has been reduced to two days. Following the completion of the meeting, the results of the discussions will be shared in writing on the Toastmasters International website instead of at a public board briefing or through streaming video. The meeting will be shorter and less expensive, however, the reporting will still be provided in a timely manner. Members can visit the Toastmasters International website to see the results of the Board meeting on February 25 and the ILC officer nomination results on February 23....
