Meeting on 23 March 2010

Dear Indrahanians,

We had 5 guests who visited us during this meeting on 23 Mar 10. One of them was brand new to Toastmasters (Kevin's guest), and he wanted to know what we're all about. Four of them are current Toastmasters who wanted to learn from us. Well, I hope they took a lot of learning away with them.

Because we had an Ice Breaker speaker who sounded like a veteran speaker (Karen), and 2 speakers who completed their CCs with their final 10th speech (Jenny & LeAnn). Karen went on to win the 'Best Speaker' award. Congratulations to all of them:-)

Unfortunately Wooi Hong had to pull out that night from his 10th speech 'cos he had cold feet...(ahem) I mean, he had a cold:-( So he missed out on our standing ovation:-(

LeAnn was doing her 4th round of the CC manual, and she could consider doing it the 5th round....

Since it takes a thief to catch a thief, we had a DTM to evalutate a DTM. Fong Ming did a very candid job, with valid comments, & went to win the 'Best Evaluator' award.

As we didn't have a speech marathon & we had actually cancelled Table Topic session earlier, we improvised & came up with an impromtu Table Topic session - so we had an impromptu impromptu session:-)

So to help give more 'business' to the Language Evaluator, Dr Devi, the TT Master (yours truly) came up with some topics that related to the Word of the Day, ie CANDID = Frank.
Frankly speaking, it's actually easier to use the word 'frank' rather than 'candid'. Nevertheless, the LE had good 'business' that night.

BTW, if any of you are as crazy as I am for classics, one of my favourite movies & books is 'GONE WITH THE WIND'. One of the most memorable lines in the book/movie, if not THE most memorable line, is: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." So said Rhett Butler to Scarlett O'Hara.

But I digress. Because I do give a damn that our night went on very well & I only wish that more of you could have been there. So I look forward to see you in the next meeting:-)

May all great blessings come your way.

Kind rgds,

Kay Wong

Ice Breaker Speech: Myself by Ang Poon Kenn

Good evening everyone, my name is Ang Poon Kenn, everyone calls me Ken. Today, the title of my speech is about Myself. As far as I could recall, me parents were not staying with me since I was 3 years old; they went overseas and started their new working life for some reason, and did not come back ever since. I'm staying with my grandmother, and she look after my elder brother, younger sister and me. I actually have not met my parents for more than 18 years and only communicate through the phone and social media. Can you imagine, 15 years of not seeing your own parents? 18 years of not having parents around the house, school and life. My grandmother take over my mother's role, she does all the housework for us. She takes care of us. My relative, they are not rich but they sponsor me for my education and pocket money. However, even though I have the love from my grandmother and relatives, I felt that I'm different from others. They have parents accompany them during...

Meeting on 27 October 2009

Dear Indrahanians, Greetings to you. Last meeting we had one of the most unusual Table Topics Sessions I've ever attended. It was conducted by Jen. She gave out a few topics & participants were supposed to tell us a lie based on those topics. Basically Jen wanted us to tell a Tall Tale. A tall tale is a story with unbelievable elements but told in such a way that it could be true. So you can believe it or not. During the session, you could tell who are the true liars (a.k.a. Dominic), those who can't a tell a lie in their honest-to-goodness life (a.k.a. Alice), those who try but didn't quite succeed (a.k.a. Dr Choong), and those who are probably true blue liars - like our guest Victor and our very own Yuan. For the record, Yuan won the Table Topics Award that night. Congrats to Yuan for being such a good liar! And kudos to Jen for such an entertaining session. Those of us who were present had a 'belly' good laugh. Anan gave his ice breaker speech. Those of you f...
