Division B Humorous Speech and Speech Evaluation Contest!

Taman Indrahana sent two fantastic speakers out for the Division B contest held on the 24 of September 2011 at Taylor's University Lakeside Campus. Our funny guy, Han Lee Hwee was competing in the Humorous Speech Contest while Ng Jean Hui was competing in what she does best, the Evaluation Speech Contest.
The evaluation contest started out first. Kenneth Yee as the test speaker gave his speech titled "When I realised... " In his speech, he talked about the Pain and Pleasure that every human will face in their lives and how these two factors affect each one of them in making decisions. Jean was up against many senior toastmasters such as Ng Sok Teng from Crystal Toastmasters Club, Sarimah Morshidi, Dennis Wee and Nor Lida Dahalan. Jean was cool and calm when it was her turn to evaluate Kenneth. She spoke with clarity and gave strong point regarding his strengths and areas of improvement. Loud applause was given to her as she was done.

Next came the Humorous Speech contest. The contestants were Chong Mei Wen, Han Lee Hwee, Dennis Wee, Johnson Yike and lastly Sarimah Morshidi. All of them tickled our funny bone with hilarious speeches that includes events that occur with the family, work bosses and their experiences in being a toastmaster.

Stephen Fernando was in the house to give us a short 15 minutes talk on tips in presenting a humorous speech. A past district champion came in a gave us a few good laughs during his presentation. As a natural funny guy, he made learning so easy and fun. I m sure all the participants there were amazed on his delivery and definitely had something to bring home at the end of the day.

Results for the Evaluation Contest:
Champion: Dennis Wee (D'Utama Advanced)
1st Runner Up: Ng Sok Teng (Crystal)
2nd Runner Up: Ng Jean Hui (Taman Indrahana)

For the Humorous Speech Contest:
Champion: Dennis Wee (D'Utama Advanced)
1st Runner Up: Johnson Yike (Pheonix)
2nd Runner Up: Sarimah Morshidi

Overall, a great saturday and congratulate Jean for being the 2nd Runner Up, and her bravery to step up to the challenge. And Han, although he wasnt placed, but all the effort and time used for the preparation deserves recognition. Well done both of you! The club is proud for having young and experienced toastmasters in the club as we move forward in being a better club.

Message from the Division Governor

Good day to all of you.   T here was once myself and NJ Singam (past  convention   organizing  Chair) went to one of the local bank to close the  convention  bank account. When we went to the counter, we informed the officer about the matter and she handed us 2 forms for us to initial it. Then she obtained our Identification Card for verification. Just within 4 minutes, the officer handed us the remaining balance and told us that, the account was closed. It was a total contrast, if we compared with opening a bank account, where we had to fill few forms, go through few  verification  and approvals prior to opening an account. The entire process took almost 2.5hours compared to closure of account which lasted only for 5 minutes.     We often forget or never ponder on the  initiator  of the club and their sacrifice &  hard work  to charter the club and we just need a single sheet of paper to close a ...

Updates from TI

February 2013 Board Meeting The 2012-2013 Board of Directors will meet February 22-23, 2013, in Southern California. The Board held its first in-person meeting after the convention in August. Since that time, the Board's committees have met virtually, focusing on topics that support the 2010 Strategic Plan. These virtual meetings have reduced the amount of time Board members need to spend at in-person meetings . This year's February Board meeting schedule has been reduced to two days. Following the completion of the meeting, the results of the discussions will be shared in writing on the Toastmasters International website instead of at a public board briefing or through streaming video. The meeting will be shorter and less expensive, however, the reporting will still be provided in a timely manner. Members can visit the Toastmasters International website to see the results of the Board meeting on February 25 and the ILC officer nomination results on February 23....
